When artists decide to build a
wall in a museum, it could be useful to explore the use of walls in museums in
general. For their work
for No Ordinary Terrain
in MUŻA’s community space, the collective asked the
museum personnel to place eight standard exhibition panels. Building the rubble
wall is only one of the many ways the collective is exploring that NO TERRAIN
is ORDINARY. During the first week of their stay at the museum, the artists
will use the panel walls as a blank canvas to improvise and investigate
further.
They want to build a wall because
they like things to be clear
They want to build a wall to be sure about what to wall in and what to wall out
They want to build a wall to give offense to the other side
They want to build a wall because good walls make good neighbours
They want to build a wall because not all walls are primitive, irrational, fearful and hostile
They want to build a wall because of its psychological as well as its physical significance
They want to build a wall because walls may have fallen but boundaries remain
They want to build a wall because every wall or fence implies its own destruction
They want to build a wall to consolidate their sovereignty
They want to build a wall because it provides the security to sit and think
They want to build a wall because boundaries make difference out of sameness
They want to build a wall because walls are destruction and creation all at once
They want to build a wall to stop this neoliberal cannibalism real estate shit show
They want to build a wall because every boundary is ultimately a message
They want to build a wall because the self itself begins with a boundary
They want to build a wall to mark out the distinct realms between things
They want to build a wall because it defines the world between heaven and earth
They want to build a wall to differentiate, not to segregate
They want to build a wall to hide
