For this commissioned in situ work at the Inquisitors’ Palace in Birgu, Malta, my attention was drawn to the Cancelleria, a former civil courtroom. The room was reconstructed only a few years ago, based on detailed documentation. Among the records is a brief reference to a table once used in this space. Apart from its approximate dimensions, very little is known about it.
Reintroducing a table felt like a natural extension of my practice, which moves between sculpture, furniture, and exhibition design. This opened a playground of possibilities: a reconstruction of a missing object; a re-enactment of a surface that once held testimonies and decisions; a reference to the museum’s contemporary displays; and a camouflaging act, absorbing the patterns, tones, and textures of its surroundings. I hope it thickens the mystery and sets your imagination in motion.
